EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a model of trauma therapy that helps you reduce your feelings of distress about traumatic or painful experiences by focusing on them for about 30-45 seconds at a time while having your eyes move back and forth. The eye movement seems to connect the left and right sides of the brain which appears to help improve a person's emotional and physical experience of the event. There is often a physical sense of relief and lightness after completing a round of EMDR indicating that the trauma that was stored in the body has shifted. EMDR is effective both in person and over telehealth.
